A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) is a financial investment product opened by a subscriber (often a parent) for a beneficiary (the child) to fund their post-secondary education.

Every amount saved in an RESP can attract government grants:

  • CESG: Canada Education Savings Grant; and
  • QESI: Quebec Education Savings Incentive; and
  • CLB: Canada Learning Bond (for lower-income families).

These grants can boost your savings by 30% to 60%*, depending on your family income, and total up to $12,800 per child*.

* Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) of 20% to 40%, and Quebec Education Savings Incentive (QESI) of 10% to 20%, based on adjusted family net income. The maximum lifetime grant amount per beneficiary is $7,200 for the CESG and $3,600 for the QESI. The CLB can reach $2,000 per beneficiary for a child born after December 31, 2003, whose family meets financial eligibility criteria. Certain conditions apply.
