GOOD TO KNOW

When should I take out insurance for valuables?

The simple rule is that if you own an object (or a collection of objects) with an estimated value greater than the maximum amount of your home insurance coverage (or the limitation of your policy), you should inquire about insuring them separately.

Protect your valuables

Family photos are priceless… Unfortunately, they are not considered valuables. Valuables insurance does not cover normal wear and tear, but if you own one of the items below, you should talk to your Ellipse broker.

Works of art, paintings, and statues

If you own proven artwork, the high value of which is determined by a specialist, it would be wise to insure it against theft, fire, or water degradation (water damage or extinguishing system).

Precious Jewellery

Your wedding ring, your grandfather’s gold signet ring, a luxury watch, etc. If these items are lost, damaged, or stolen, the upset you might feel would only be compounded by the cost of a buyback or repair.

Collections

Collections of stamps, sports cards, coins, rare items, etc. If the value of your collection exceeds the coverage limit for personal property under your insurance policy, contact us!

Racing bicycle or electric bicycle

If your insurance policy has a limit of $4,000, but your bike is worth $8,000, you might want to add valuables insurance to your policy!

Wine cellar

If you are a big wine enthusiast or have a wine cellar, you should contact us to ensure that your insurance coverage matches the value of your Grand Cru wines.
